For the food sovereignty of farmer communities


 
The massive deforestation underway in Senegal has resulted in soil impoverishment, a drop in crop production and farmers' incomes, and the impoverishment of rural communities. Through a combined intervention in rainwater resource management, agroforestry patch reintroduction and community capacity building, we are able to stop this vicious circle.

This ecosystem approach to the problems of Senegalese farmers promotes a multi-faceted rebalancing of production conditions and is accompanied by a rapid and sustainable improvement in nutrition and living conditions. The aim of the "Rain, Forest and People" and "Earth and Rain" projects is to contribute to strengthening the food sovereignty and resilience of rural communities in the face of climate change.

The present project "A Kop Allè no Maag Olé (The Forest of the Sea)" aims specifically to strengthen the resilience of the estuarine ecosystems of the Sine Saloum and of the communities in the face of the increasing risks linked to climate change.

Femmes de terre (Fatick, Kaolack)

As in other Sub-Saharan African countries, Senegalese rural women produce, process and market most of the food consumed in households. Their contribution to food security is clearly very significant (up to 80%).

De terre et de pluie (Kaolack)

The objective of this project "De terre et de pluie" is to increase the resilience of Senegalese rural communities by strengthening peasant agriculture in the face of climate change. This project will support about thirty farmers in the Kaolack region for 24 months.

"Thanks to the Calabash, my wife was able to cook and wash without using tap water. The water from the Calabash lasted 5 months. Water bills are expensive. Thanks to this system, instead of paying 3000FCFA/month , I only had to pay 750FCFA/month which means 75% decrease.
